Working at Heights

This CPO-approved Working at Heights course provides the practical knowledge required to work safely at heights in Ontario. Learners participate in hands-on equipment and setup exercises while reviewing safe practices and procedures under the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario.

  • Full Course: 6.5 hours
  • Refresher Course: 4 hours
  • Certification Validity: 3 years from successful completion

Module 1: Basic Theory

Rights and responsibilities, hazard recognition, fall protection hierarchy of controls, personal fall arrest equipment, warning systems, physical barriers, ladders, and fall arrest components.

Module 2: Practical Equipment

Barriers, safety nets, anchorage points, work positioning systems, rescue planning, rope grabs, vertical lifelines, SRLs, temporary horizontal lifelines, harness fitting, lanyard use, equipment inspection, and pass/fail removal criteria.

Mobile Elevated Work Platform

MEWP training is designed for workers operating scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other elevated work platforms. The course combines classroom theory, written testing, multimedia instruction, live demonstrations, and hands-on equipment experience.

  • Length: Approximately half day, depending on learner experience
  • Expiry: No regulated expiry date
  • Note: Organizations may choose their own re-certification schedule

Training Topics

Equipment inspection, safety regulations and standards, Group 1 and 2 platform fundamentals, hazard identification, stability characteristics, site safety analysis, machine orientation, safe start-up and shutdown, steering controls, operating envelope, emergency controls, safe dismounting, and fall protection.

Construction learners should have CPO-approved Working at Heights. Industrial learners are trained in personal fall protection before operating any lift.

Class 7 Forklift / Telehandler / Zoom Boom

This training is built for operators working with Class 7 forklifts, telehandlers, zoom booms, and rough terrain forklifts. These machines are versatile and powerful, but require specialized training due to their design, lifting capacity, and worksite conditions.

  • Expiry: 3 years
  • Standard: CSA Standard B335-15
  • Format: Classroom learning, written assessment, and hands-on practical evaluation

Training Topics

Safety regulations, lift truck fundamentals, job safety analysis, safe operation, machine inspection, refueling safety, balance and stability, start-up and shutdown protocols, slope operation, load handling, load charts, lifting and placing loads, driving with loads, steering types, reversing safely, parking, and shutdown procedures.

Confined Space Entry & Attendant

Confined Space Entry and Attendant training covers the responsibilities, procedures, hazards, and documentation required for workers involved in or around confined spaces. This course is recommended for confined space supervisors, attendants, and entrants.

  • Length: Full day
  • Expiry: No regulated expiry date
  • Regulation: Covers key requirements under O. Reg. 632/05

Training Topics

Roles and responsibilities, PPE, hazard identification, confined space paperwork, work permits, hazard assessments, coordination documents, rescue plan overview, definitions and examples of confined spaces, communication, hierarchy of controls, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, rescue types, and equipment review.

Hands-On Practice

Routine entry following the permit process, non-entry rescue procedures, and gas monitoring system use.
